I am so excited to share my first make for Sew My Style – my Toaster Sweater 2 by Sew House 7! I must admit, I was a little unsure how much I would like this sweater (or jumper as we call it here in Australia) as it is not something I would usually go for. However, I am really pleased with how this turned out and I think I will be adding a couple more to my wardrobe!
I found this gorgeous fabric at Spotlight. It is a grey ribbed jersey knit with a slight fleck throughout. I wear quite a bit of grey in winter as I find it really easy to style, so I think I will get quite a bit of wear about of this jumper. Whilst the fabric was quite sturdy overall, it does collapse slightly at the neckline but is not bad enough to make too much of a difference.
I went with the XS and decided to keep the original semi-cropped design. As I am quite short (5’1) I knew the shorter length would fit me well. The sleeve length was the perfect size which is always a big tick in my book.
The construction of this jumper was so easy and actually quite enjoyable. I think it was maybe a 2 – 3 hour process. There is nothing too complicated, and the self neck facing finishes off the garment perfectly. I also loved the construction of the vents and hemline. It all looks so neat and tidy. Kenneth (being a qualified carpenter) was so proud of my mitred corners!
Overall I am so pleased with how this sweater turned out. I have loved seeing everyones variations Also, did you see the thumbholes hack Emily from Self Assembly Required made to her toaster sweater – amazing!
You can hear me talk more about this jumper & my other January Makes (including my knitting projects) in my latest video…
