Why did we start Little Miss Lorraine?
We are both passionate about handmade creations and enjoy crafting as a pastime from our fulltime ‘day’ jobs.
Our shop is full of items we have looked for and cannot find locally. Gone are the days of the local haberdashery where you could pick up bespoke sewing notions. Children’s clothing is often mass produced and it is hard to find something a little different or something special for a newborn gift. Having a handmade cushion to add as a feature to a group of perhaps ‘cheap and cheerful’ cushions can add something unique to your home décor, and everyone is after something different when it comes to their accessories.
Jess started her crafting journey when she was little, inspired by her grandma who was a sewer and knitter. She has completed many knitting projects over the years and still enjoys picking up her knitting to unwind after a busy day. Her latest knitting creation was her first ever attempt at a Fair Isle jumper which turned out so well she is about to embark on another one!
Jess’s aim is to have a mostly handmade wardrobe which is something she has been working towards since mid-2016. You can follow her sewing & knitting journey over at www.jessicalorraine.com
Joy was also inspired in her crafting journey by her Mum who made clothes for herself and also Joy & her sister. Her Mum was also an excellent knitter and crotchetier and whilst Joy has knitted many jumpers, scarves, baby garments and blankets over the years, she now has re-ignited her sewing passion. Joy started her sewing journey by making her boys’ baby clothes and then progressed to learning patchworking. She then moved into papercraft and developed an interest in card making, which she still enjoys. With the recent arrival of her first grandchild she has now got back into sewing and is passionate about making bespoke baby and children’s clothes and quilts.
